SUMMARY:WRTDD2024
DESCRIPTION:Dementia – Glimpsed Futures: WRTDD2024 Webinar Series\nIn acknowledgment of the escalating global health crisis surrounding dementia, the World Federation of Right to Die Societies is proud to announce the launch of its informative 2024 Webinar Series on dementia, titled “Dementia – Glimpsed Futures,” in celebration of World Right to Die Day (WRTDD) on November 2nd.\nDementia has emerged as one of the most critical health challenges facing society today. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), it is projected that by 2050, 178 million people worldwide will be living with dementia. Dementia is already the leading cause of death in some countries. As a global organisation representing over 60 member societies, the World Federation recognises the urgency of addressing this issue and fostering dialogue surrounding end-of-life choices.\nThe webinar series will feature three international sessions that bring together a diverse group of experts as well as individuals with lived experience in dementia and end-of-life care:\n\nWebinar 1: We are honoured to welcome Dr. Lewis Cohen from the United States, author of “Winters End,” who will discuss the complexities of considering life-foreshortening options following a dementia diagnosis. Dr. Cohen will engage in conversation with primary caregivers whose loved ones were diagnosed with dementia.\n\nTo Register for Webinar 1 , please follow THIS LINK ( https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_0Rz6lZ3ySGiWVwg71YUr0A )\n\nWebinar 2: Hosted  by World Federation President, Asun Alvarez and featuring both Fernando Marin, Medic, Vice-President of DMD Federal Spain, and Lina Paola Lara Negrette, Executive Director of DMD Colombia, this session will explore practical and ethical considerations in end-of-life care. They will delve into support processes and respect for individual autonomy in end-of-life decisions.\n\nTo register for Webinar 2 , please follow THIS LINK ( https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_1AdQee26SUCiJd1BwAqQCA )\n\nWebinar 3: The series will conclude with a session focusing on Australia and New Zealand. Tina McCafferty, CEO of Totara Hospice in Wellington, will discuss  their unique approach, as part of their comprehensive palliative care, including the option of an  assisted death under New Zealand law. She will be joined by Emeritus Professor John Willoughby, a neurologist and advocate for assisted dying. They will be in conversation with World Federation Board member Anne Bunning, who has conducted national research on dementia and assisted dying.\n\nTo register for Webinar 3, please follow THIS LINK ( https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_1IyxmPLtRwyxG__Pn70UDw )\nYou are free to register for any one, two or all three webinars.
